The tallest man on planet Earth ever was Robert Wadlow. He was born on 22 February 1918 in Alton state, Illinois, USA. He is also known as Giant of Illinois. He died at age 22. He reached incredible 2.72 m in height (8ft 11in), and weight of 220kg!

The reason for his great size lies in fact that he had abnormally high level of human growth hormone, more precisely he had hypertrophy of his pituitary gland. He never stopped growing, not even at age of 22. He died on July 15 1940, after an infection caused by irritation of his ankle.

Today, the tallest man on earth is Leonid Stadnyk from a small village Podoliantsi in Ukraine. He reached 8ft 5 in or 2.53 m! His condition is called agromegalic gigantism and he started to grow after a brain surgery which affected his pituitary gland. He was added to the Guinness book of Records at 27 September 2007.

Big Ben is one of the most famous clock towers in the whole world. This tower belongs to the Palace of Westminster in London, and it is settled on its north side. It’s the third tallest clock tower in the world, with 316 foots (about 100 meters). The clock started clicking for itself for the first time on 31 May 1859. Most people think that Big Ben refers to the entire tower with the clock, but that is not correct. Actually, Big Ben is the name for the clock in the tower.

The base of the each side have clock about 7 meters wide (23 feet), they are designed for easy maintenance and cleaning. On all four sides of the clock there is an inscription in Latin: DOMINE SALVAM FAC REGINAM NOSTRAM VICTORIAM PRIMAM, which means: “Lord save our Queen Victoria I”.

The nick name Big Ben is probably after the Benjamin Hall, person who first ordered the bell. But, there is also opinion that wears the name after Benjamin Caunt, English boxer champion. Whether it bears the name of one or the other Benjamin, Big Ben is one of the most famous building and one of the “must see” destinations in London. It is the symbol of London, beside the black cab and double decker bus.

The beauty of the Westminster palace, built in gothic style, and the tallness of the tower with the impressing Big Ben clock has made it to become one of the most visited sights on the world list.

Some other interesting information about Big Ben:
Big Ben appears in many films (The Thirty-Nine Steps, The Avengers, Big Ben Strikes Again…). During the World War I the clock was stopped to prevent the attack of Germans. The major breakdown was in 1976, speed regulator was broke after 100 years. After nine months it was fixed.

Everyone probably knows that Ibiza is one of the most popular tourist destinations. But, does every one of us know where Ibiza really is?

Ibiza (native name: Eivissa) is one of the most visited islands in the whole world. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea and it is part of community Baleares islands in Spain. 80km far from the coast and the city of Valencia and surrounded with over fifty other islands, belongs to the Pine islands along with Formentera. The biggest cities are Ibiza town and Sant Antonio.

Beside the great climate and interesting historical data, Ibiza offers a very rich nightlife. That is the main reason for the popularity of Ibiza. Five star hotels, nightclubs, club sunrises, famous DJs, various type of music and artists…all these facts brought the popularity of Ibiza. The best parties are, naturally at the city of Ibiza, which is the center of a good summer life. The most popular clubs are Privilege, Eden, Amnesia, Underground, Gala night and many others. Many DJs are using these club parties to promote their music and new albums.

One of the things that are one the list “must see” is watching the sunset from the well known bar Café del mar.

Beside the popular nightlife, Ibiza was inspiration for many writers, singers and directors. There are many novels and screenplays inspired with the peculiarity of Ibiza. Interesting information about Ibiza: there is a musical genre that has been forged from a special atmosphere in Ibiza: puts together the sound of waves, mandolins, guitars.

So if you still haven t made your decision about visiting Ibiza or not, we definitely say YES, you won t regret it.

Amazon rain forest is known as “the lungs of the World.” The reason that it is so rich in species is found in the fact that this is the oldest ecosystem on planet Earth. Being the largest rain forest on the western hemisphere Amazonian rain forests have astounding biodiversity. Biodiversity is the number of different species living in an ecosystem. The number of species is almost unobtainable, because vast areas of rain forest remain unexplored. Yet, with every expedition that goes in there, we find new species. Because of the tall trees ecosystem is divided in strata or layers. Each layer has its own species and they can spend their whole life without any interaction with the species from another layer. Until now, there have been cataloged 40.000 species of plants, 3000 fish, 1300 birds, 428 mammals, the same number of amphibians and 380 reptiles. More than 100.000 invertebrates have been described by scientists. One out of ten known animals live in the Amazonian rain forests and one out of all known birds live there also.

The biggest house in the world is also one of the seats of the British monarchy, the Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle is located in Berkshire, England. It is the oldest continuingly occupied castle. It has about 45.000 square meters occupied by the castles floor. It was first established in 1070 by William The Conqueror, so that means that it is almost a thousand years old! It was originally a wooden castle, standing on the site that is now occupied by the so called Round Tower. Most of the England Kings and Queens left their mark in continuous development of the castle. During the times of war, the currently reigning monarch would build more walls and try to fortify it more heavily. During the times of peace, king or queen would add to it more apartments and rooms for fun and entertainment. The famous college, Eton College is located just across the river Thames some 600 meters from the Windsor Castle.

Carnival of Venice take it’s time every year two weeks before Ash Wednesday and it ends on Mardi Grass. It is the one of the most popular European festivals, attracting hundred of thousand tourists each year. History of the carnival goes back thousand years in history. Festival started to be held first time somewhere at middle of 1100’s with their best knowing symbol Venetian masks started wearing in 1268. The main carnival idea was to collectively celebrate forty time of Lent. After that, mentioned symbols “masks” are introduced to break barrier between rich and poor.

Masks were always central symbol of Venetian Carnival. Masks were usually made by leather and are kept very simple in design where now using gesso and various decorative plastics and other materials are. People who were mask-makers are called mascherari. Masks can be easily bought in many shops in Venice or even ordered over the internet. There are many types of masks like Bauta, Columbine, Medico Della Peste, Moretta, and Volto… In the movie Eyes Wide Open, Tom Cruise attends a secret party where people wear Venetian masks.

Even carnival has religious origin (and pagan influences) people mainly forget that and are coming to Venice to enjoy themselves, experience carnival atmosphere and be happy regardless of what religion they are.
