Serbian Traditional Music

One of my online friends heard some Serbian ethno (folk) songs and he asked me can I suggest him more similar music, so I decided to compile Youtube small list here which will allow him (and any other who is interested) easy further research. Since I am no expert in the field I just posted those one I like very much.

Statue of Decebalus

Statue of Decebalus is the tallest sculpture in Europe which is carved in rock. 40 meters high statue is located at Danube rocky coast near the town Orşova in Romania. Decebalus was Dacian King who was famous for fighting three wars against Roman empire. He ruled the Dacians from 87 to 106 AD. At the end he killed himself, not allowing Romans to capture him alive.

Sculpture is idea by the Iosif Constantin Drăgan – Romanian historian. Building began in 1994 and finished in 2004. They needed a 12 sculptors and over 1 million dollars to finish it.
Under the Decebal face, carved in the stone is inscription on Lating language “DECEBALUS REX – DRAGAN FECIT” which means “King Decebal – Drăgan Fecit”.

Other coast side of Danube is belonging to the Serbia and right in front of Decebal statue is the Tabula Traiana an ancient memorial plaque which commemorates to the victories of the Roman Empire over the Dacian kingdom in 105 AD.

Đavolja Varoš – Devils Town

Đavolja Varoš (Devils Town) is atractive nature phenomenon in South Serbia maybe 90 km soutwest from Niš, near Kuršumlija. It is in fact 202 rock formations maded by erosion and rain. This phenomenon is very rare in the world and similar appearences can be found in Alpes and USA but are much smaller. This location is under state protection from 1959 and from 1995 is natural good of outstanding importance and enjoy first category of state protection.
There is also two natural spring located bellow the formations with the high mineral concentration.
First spring called Devils Water is extremly high acid water (ph 1.5) and with the high mineral concetrantion (15 g/l). Rock formation is nominee in New Seven Wonders election. Curently they are on 24th position of 77 candidates. Is is first of nominee from Europe and first among other rockz formations in the worlds.
